Emil Molt was the founder of the first Waldorf School. He wished for a school for the children of the workers in his Waldorf Astoria Cigarette factory. He turned to his friend and mentor, Rudolf Steiner to ask for help in developing a curriculum for the school. Steiner was thrilled and set to work immediately developing curriculum and finding the best teachers for the new school. Rudolf Steiner told Molt’s niece that he was not surprised that her uncle Emil would be interested in education as his was an enormous personality connected to Charlemagne, hinting that he had been Emil Molt in a previous incarnation. Frans Lutters, longtime Waldorf teacher and anthroposophist, has considered this connection between Emil Molt and Charlemagne over many years and draws the many parallels that underscore this suggestion by Rudolf Steiner. His research illuminates some of the elements behind the founding of this important movement which introduces a new form of education designed to last into the coming millennium.

About the Author:
Frans Lutters has been a Waldorf teacher in Holland since 1983. His natural enthusiasm about literature and its place in developing capacities in the young for discernment, morality, idealism and courage led him to a deeper pondering of recent phenomena. His books in English, "The Grail Mysteries and the Seven Liberal Arts," "An Exploration into the Destiny of the Waldorf School Movement," and "Who is Harry Potter?" reflect his capacities for imagination and philosophy. His investigations bring new light to events in history and to the efficacy of Waldorf education.
