Ruth Culham, EdD, is a pioneering researcher in the traits of writing field. She creates and conducts workshops for K 14 teachers and administrators in more than forty states and for staff in China, England, France, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Turkey, South Africa, and Egypt as well as other international school sites.
For nearly twenty years, Dr. Culham was English Department chair and a ninth-grade English teacher at Mountain View Intermediate School. She has also been a language arts teacher, fifth-grade teacher, and library/media specialist for several K 8 schools.
Dr. Culham is author of Traits Writing: The Complete K 8 Program; 6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide; 6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for Primary Grades; and Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for Middle School.
Her areas of expertise include six-trait writing assessment; instructional strategies of the six-trait model for grades 3 14; primary writing assessment and instruction for grades K 2; coordinating and planning a district writing assessment; long-range planning for staff development in writing assessment; and curriculum alignment with writing standards and assessments.
Ruth earned an EdD in educational administration at the University of Asturias. She also holds an MA in English education from the University of Montana and a BA in elementary education and library science from the University of Montana.
