9781936872084: No Time To Wander: the Financial Compass for Young Americans

Synopsis

For young Americans seeking financial independence, a daunting journey lies ahead. Regardless of educational level, gender, race, religion, family heritage or career path, a maze of choices and roadblocks will emerge in the new economic landscape. Distilling financial topics into the essential cornerstones, nine time author Paul Nourigat demystifies America's economic realities and reveals inspiring routes to financial freedom. He cuts through financial rhetoric, guiding readers on a practical journey of life choices and financial outcomes. Topics include a fascinating snapshot of how jobs have evolved, in-depth tactics for how to win a job, how to protect a job and then into a series of chapters about the tricks and traps of spending, saving, investing, and debt. Unique financial "life" topics are covered in chapters addressing the financial consequences of relationships, how young Americans can reduce risks in their lives, and an inspiring look at the opportunities the author anticipates over the next ten years. Book includes charts and worksheets readers can use to implement concepts. A must read for all young Americans who want insight to the present, hope for the future and a compass for life.

From the Author

Why this book, and why now?  Because young Americans in their 20s and 30s are caught in the undertow of a lousy economy coupled with increasing competition from all directions.  Having grown up through two nasty economic cycles (2001 and 2008) they want a guide to help them capture opportunities and reduce risks, and they want hope.

Young Americans also want straight answers about money, yet are often intimidated by financial topics and money-speak. No Time To Wander provides context to financial topics, in a style young Americans prefer.  Beyond fundamental financial topics, I address the reasons for financial difficulties, to help those in their 20s and 30s avoid the mishaps of the generations before them.

America is at an interesting crossroad in its history, as changing demographics and global competition have increased the importance of financial literacy.  Adults with financial smarts are simply in a better position to avoid many of the challenges they will otherwise face. My books are not about "wealth", but rather financial aptitude and disciplines, which ultimately promises financial freedom.  Isn't that what we all want?

Thank you for your interest in No Time To Wander.

From the Inside Flap

Introduction
Reflect back on your graduation from school. You were relieved to be finished and proud of  yourself ... and then you had to move on. The world only celebrates success for a very short time, right?

Reality hits fast. When moving from student/absorb mode to adult/produce mode, new dimensions of life present unexpected challenges. This phase has always been challenging, yet with increased global competition, automation, and the recession's effect on jobs and real wages, young Americans today are facing a very difficult economic environment. Many feel a sense of despair. However, there's truly a rainbow ahead, if you know where to look.

I respect the uniqueness of people, yet also recognize what we have in common. Regardless of heritage, race, political party, relationship status, gender, religious beliefs, or educational level, the essentials in this book apply to all young Americans. I won't tell you how to live your life, but will explain in clear terms how you can significantly improve your financial posture in any environment, in order to pursue the life you want.

Many millions of people will wander and struggle in the years ahead, while others will taste early success only to have it pulled away through their errors or misfortunes. Things can be better for you. There will be incredible opportunities if you position yourself for success.  Over the next ten years, planning and effectively navigating your financial journey will make the difference between surviving and thriving.
