I started writing "The Chronicles of Ard-Taebh" just past the middle. My first novel, ARD MAGISTER, starts the last third of the series that was born in my head all those years ago. But somewhere along the way, the process of creation expanded with the world of Ard-Taebh, and in the end, I went back to the beginning.

Which is not to say that it really IS the beginning. At times, even I am not sure just where that is. But for this series, DRAGON’S TONGUE is the beginning. It tells where Fenelon got the idea for the creation of the Ard Magister, as well as how the balance of the world was nearly threatened before the proper time, and how one reluctant young bard became a hero.

In some ways, Ard-Taebh resembles the cycle of life. We are born, we live, and we die. Ard-Taebh was born in the Great Cataclysm, lives in the time of mage wars, barbarian raids and religious strife, and will end when the final whisper of magic saves the world. And like the phoenix, the world arises out of the ashes of destruction to begin anew. The Ard-Taebh Chronicles is a world born out of the ashes of the previous age.

Maybe one day I’ll go back and write about the age of the Haxons and the dark reign of the Shadow Lords, but for now, we are here, and this is where I plan to stay for a while.
