From the Author:
I believe that postsecondary education unlocks possibilities for the future. The term "higher education" can be a certificate program, an associate's or bachelor's degree, or even more advanced degrees. Not every student goes to the most competitive colleges in the nation. In fact, most of don't, but there are many solid, great colleges out there that could be a perfect match for each child. I wanted to write a short, easy-to-use guide to help parents assist their children in finding the right school for them.
I've worked in education my entire career, and for over two decades my work have focused on helping students make the transition from high school to college. Making the transition is not difficult, but it does take planning and time. I've wanted to produce something that parents could read quickly so that they could spend more time helping their children through the college planning process than reading about it. I've included lots of web site to help you and your child through your college planning journey.
I've included information about my own experiences about college. I was neither the best student nor the most thoughtful. I had parents who set the college expectation and pushed me to achieve even when I didn't want to. I am part of the masses, not elite in any way, shape, and especially not fashion. Through many of the writing classes I've taken, I've heard the advice write what I know. I know about moving students from high school to college and wanted to share that information with those who have children making this important and costly transition.
