Gregory J. Laughery explores the perennial struggle to understand imagination; a notable trademark of many poets, philosophers, and theologians throughout the centuries, and right up to the present. Ancient thinkers and bards disputed the functional capacity of imagination to create or connect to the world, while contemporary writers and theorists ponder its contribution to making or discovering meaning. Over the course of time, efforts to figure out whether imagination is destructive or useful are unresolved. One of the key reasons for writing this book is to engage this controversy in an accessible way, especially for artists, students, and pastors. The monumental questions of who am I, what is real, and the role of imagination, remain vigorously debated today. In Living Imagination, Laughery offers us a fantastic account of this evolving story, proposing compelling insights along the way.

Gregory J. Laughery (D.Th., University of Fribourg, Suisse) lives and writes in Switzerland. This book is the next exciting step of the journey from time, narrative, and memory, to imagination. Living Imagination. Who Am I & What is Real? is the culmination of several years of reflection on Imagination and how it has been perceived by philosophers, poets, and theologians. Laughery shows that many, especially Christians, have viewed imagination negatively. His book critiques this inadequate 'picture' and replaces it with a much more positive orientation. He writes: "When we lose the ability to understand that centaurs and dragons are more real than technology and mechanisms, we're in deep trouble. Impoverished imaginations destroy faith and meaning, whereas living imaginations promote them."
