About the Author:
Loren W. Christensen has been studying the martial arts since 1965. Over the years he has earned ten black belts, seven in karate, two in jujitsu, and one in arnis. As a karate competitor, he won more than 50 trophies in the black belt division. This is Loren’s 12th book on the fighting arts and his many articles have appeared in all the martial arts magazines. He was recently featured in the book Who’s Who in the American Teacher’s Association of the Martial Arts. Loren’s pragmatic approach to the fighting arts was borne during his tour in Vietnam as a military policeman when he quickly discovered that the fancy techniques and stiff classical moves from his traditional system didn’t work in Saigon’s mean streets. When he returned home, he began searching out a realistic approach to fighting, one that would serve him during his 25 years as a police officer in Portland, Oregon. As an officer, Loren worked as a street officer, gang enforcement officer, defensive tactics instructor and as a body guard. He is now a full-time writer and a teacher of realistic martial arts.
