Synopsis
Middle School Math by Design contains 44 activity pages covering topics such as prime numbers; working with fractions, decimals, and percents; arithmetic using signed numbers; arithmetic using scientific notation; interpreting linear graphs; and rational approximations of irrational numbers. The Second Edition contains four new activities designed to address specific Common Core State Standards for Mathematics for grade 8, and the table of contents notes specific CCSSM addressed by activities. The book employs a search-and-shade technique that rewards students for their efforts, while allowing them to self-check their work. Each page contains exercises with shading codes that students use to shade a grid labeled with the answers. If the answers are correct, a symmetrical design emerges. Teachers have permission to copy the pages for classroom use, and an answer key is provided. Grades 5-8.
