About the Author
Jim Turner earned his master s degree in U.S. history from the University of Arizona in 1999 and has been researching and teaching Arizona history for more than forty years. Jim retired as Arizona Historical Society historian in 2009 to write Arizona: A Celebration of the Grand Canyon State and is currently an author and editor for Rio Nuevo Publishers where he wrote The Mighty Colorado River: From the Glaciers to the Gulf and Crater Lake and Beyond: The Land of Fire and Ice. Jim also gives history presentations for Roads Scholars (formerly Elderhostel), is a presenter for the Arizona Humanities, and gives presentations at conferences, conventions, and retirement communities in Tucson and Phoenix.
Larry Lindahl is a travel and nature photographer with a passion for the colorful Southwest. He explores the region frequently to photograph its diverse cultures, sculptured geology, and awe-inspiring vistas. His landscape photography has been exhibited by the Smithsonian Institution and is permanently displayed at Petrified Forest National Park. He has five photography books to his credit, several with publishing awards, along with images on international magazine covers and in feature stories about the Southwest. His work appears in Arizona Highways, Outdoor Photographer, Backpacker, Southwest Art, and Conde Nasté Traveler. He is the author of Secret Sedona: Sacred Moments in the Landscape and lives in Sedona, Arizona.
