Martha Petronella van der Wal Larsen was born May 8th, 1933 the daughter of Jan van der Wal and Susanna Sophia Maria van der Wal Merks. She had just turned seven years old when the Second World War started. WWII ended shortly after her twelfth birthday. Her husband, Niels Brannick Larsen served his mission in the Netherlands and taught Martha and her widowed mother the gospel. The US Army sent Niels to Germany. Their son, Jan served his mission in The Netherlands and their grandson, Robert Niels Larsen is now serving his mission in Holland. Martha earned her bachelor’s degree in Child Psychology – paying her way through college by playing piano for the Dutch National Radio Station in Hilversum. She has taught private piano lessons and was an elementary school teacher for over thirty years where she taught kindergarten, music and special education. She continues to teach piano to children of her former students. Martha has served four missions. The first was with her husband, Niels in the Washington DC Temple. The second and third were at the family history center in Salt Lake City. The fourth mission was at the family history center in Mesa, Arizona. She has been an avid genealogist most of her life and currently is an ordinance worker in the Snowflake, Arizona Temple and serves as a family history consultant in the Winslow, Arizona Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
