This poetic collection, published in Greek and English on facing pages, consists of an extensive epic and lyric synthesis, in which the Hellenic gods and other heroic personages meet and talk, act and suffer passions wonderful and worthy of consideration. The action takes place on the Rock of Acropolis, Mount Olympus, and Mount Parnassus, with the young Olympians, Athena, Hermes and Apollo, as protagonists. Apollo is absent from the trial of the Prophets, in spite of Athena’s efforts to persuade him to take part. But, this philanthropist god and lover of beauty has decided to abandon Olympus and live among mortals for the sake of Daphne, a modest shepherdess and famed beauty of Parnassus. He refuses to take part in the quarrels of the fellow gods, preferring to spend his time with making poetry and music, in an effort to express his great love. Through the intervention of Aphrodite, the action ends with a splendid wedding and Dionysian feast.
