The poems of the present collection, published in Greek and English on facing pages, are inspired by the ecumenical political situation as it was shaped after the end of the Cold War and, more specifically, after the tragedy of 9/11/2001. The Cold War between the Soviet Union and the West might have ended ingloriously for the former, but the Russian antagonism towards NATO, and the American Global Hegemony, continued and became even more intense with the rise of China to the status of an economic and military power. Amid these three colossal powers the European Union attempted to find its balance and to exist as the fourth pole by reconciling the antitheses of the North and South. In this light, the Mediterranean Sea, as part of the European Union, acquires a central significance, while microscopic Greece is called upon to play, once again, a decisive role in present political developments.
