From the Author

Dawn Appler-Worsley is a highly accomplished senior care professional, author and national speaker with 26 years of expertise, she has been awarded national certifications as a Certified Activity Director, Consultant, Dementia Care Practitioner, Alzheimer's Dementia Care Trainer and Eden Alternative Associate. An approved Modular Education for Activity Professionals (MEPAP) instructor, Dawn was instrumental in working with other industry experts during the development of the Home Care Certification Curriculum and Credential to begin addressing the growing need for standards in Home Care for our aging population.   Published in both print and video, Dawn has a vast knowledge in many facets of long-term care and community services. She is considered a pioneer in her field regarding resident rights and culture change, a national speaker on a variety of topics for health care workers, and is currently serving on the Board of the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP).
Robert Brennan is a Registered Nurse and Nursing Home Administrator with over 35 years of long-term care experience. He is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and Credentialed in Montessori Based Dementia Programming (MBDP) providing general and train-the-trainer programs. Robert was responsible for the development of an ALFA's "Best of Best" award-winning program for care of individuals with dementia using MBDP. He provides education on dementia and long-term care regulatory topics. He has been instrumental in the development of the R.O.S. Activities for the Family Caregiver book series and the R.O.S. Activities 201 training program - How To Live, which focuses on ADL's.


Scott Silknitter is the founder of R.O.S. Therapy Systems. He has made it his mission to make activities and engagement for those with cognitive and physical disabilities part of our national dialogue and to improve quality of life for caregivers and seniors through those activities and education. Scott is passionate about spreading this important message across the country and eventually across the globe. As a means to get the conversation started, he also developed the Start Some Joy Movement along with the initial co-sponsors of the movement - The National Association of Activity Professionals and the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.  He's co-written family caregiver books with national experts for both the Activities 101 for the Family Caregiver Series and the Activities for the Family Caregiver Series  - to help caregivers engage and improve the quality of life for millions of people who suffer from dementia, Parkinson's ALS, stroke, TBI and many other debilitating, chronic diseases. The books of both series are written with common sense advice and suggestions, but based on the principles and core focus areas for communication, engagement and care taught to long term care professionals.    
He has spoken to audiences from the largest at-home healthcare company to insurance professionals to civic groups to the multinational audience of TEDx viewers.  Written articles and pieces for Foxnews.com, A Place For Mom's Alzheimer's website, the National Parkinson's Foundation, McKnight's Long Term Care Magazine and other publications and media outlets.
