Pastors and evangelists often confuse salvation and discipleship, thereby making eternal salvation depend on doing good works. In Grace in Eclipse, Zane Hodges shows that eternal salvation is by faith alone, in Christ alone, apart from works. He also defends the importance of discipleship for winning rewards in the life to come.

Zane Hodges has sought to live a life consistent with the marvelous and undeserved grace that his loving heavenly Father showed Zane, when He gave Zane the absolutely free gift of eternal life through faith alone in Jesus Christ. Currently, Zane is engaged in pastoral ministry at Victor Street Bible Chapel in Dallas, where he has ministered for over 40 years. Zane received his BA degree from Wheaton College and his ThM degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He taught New Testament Greek and exegesis at Dallas Theological Seminary for 27 years until 1987. Zane also served as the Chairman of the New Testament Department.
A need has arisen in the evangelical community for a return to the simple message of salvation by faith alone. Salvation and discipleship have been confused by pastors and evangelists in the current trend to front-load the gospel message. In Grace in Eclipse Prof. Zane Hodges makes an important contribution to the movement that seeks to reestablish a biblical gospel message.
In this timely work, Prof. Hodges presents an exegetically oriented treatise on the doctrine of rewards and their relationship to the gospel. Through a careful analysis of the pertinent passages of Scripture, he argues conclusively that the believer's faithfulness or unfaithfulness to the cause of Christ in this life will result in both rewards and regrets in the life hereafter. In refocusing our attention on the eternal consequences of obedience or disobedience to God, Prof. Hodges has surfaced for us the biblical perspective on sin in the life of the believer.
It is my prayer that this book will be read by pastors and evangelists everywhere and will thus be used by God to put an end to what Prof. Hodges has rightly described as an "eclipse of grace."
