During the first millennium year, young Deidre and her friend Culain love reading ancient manuscripts in their Abbey studies -- even helping the good monk Angus re-do bindings and repair vellum pages. But are there dark secrets in these stories? Especially their favorite-- the Book of Invasions, the saga of the forming years of Ancient Ireland, including their own Ulster. Is Abbess Brigit right that the tales of the Tuatha race, the great heroes of yore and ancestors of the magical faeries, mostly myth? Culain believes the sagas are true and faerie magic is real. Deidre doubts--until encounters with an old hag with strange spices and an odd pot-maker with a curious cauldron visit her at the Boar's Inn where she suffers as the scullery-wench daughter of oppressive innkeepers. Cruel punishments finally propel Deidre to doubt that these are her real parents and to imagine running away. To become a gypsy, she thinks. But a deep belief that her true parents are still alive convinces her to consider Culain's proposal to seek the faerie world and ask for help. Overcoming fear, she agrees to his plan to travel into the Enchanted Ards Forest to find answers - but danger lurks! Little does she know that she too will become a part of the Ulster legends and lore.

Irish songs, tales and laughter were a big part of J. Michael McFadden's youth. He enjoyed his father John's knack for lively story telling and humor. He attended St. Patrick's Church and school in Cleveland, Ohio. Plus his father was an immense fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. So, unsurprisingly, he developed a great love and interest in all things Irish, especially story-telling. His love of the written word led him to become the Editorial Editor of his St. Ignatius HS newspaper. While J. Michael imagined becoming a writer, he settled in HS for a few less than memorable attempts to imitate his beloved Arthur Conan Doyle and his intriguing detective, Sherlock Holmes. Being practical and loving the analytical thinking skills displayed by Holmes, J. Michael decided to minor in English and major in engineering at John Carroll University, transferring to the University of Detroit Mercy to earn his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree in 1972. He moved to Muskegon, MI to work for an aerospace firm and raise a family of 3 children-- reveling in bedtime story requests and following in his own father's footsteps of story telling. Several trips to Ireland and extensive reading of Celtic myth and history eventually drew J. Michael to enroll in the Institute of Children's Literature, allowing him to fashion several short stories and two novels about a first millennium character named Deidre and her friend Culain. But publishing was an elusive exercise and manuscripts gathered dust. J. Michael nurtured his writing instincts by creating the Writer's Exchange group at the local Barnes & Noble in 1999. It gradually rekindled his interest in publishing. He chose to pursue the emerging world of self-publishing and joined the team at Argon Press in early 2016. With their guidance, J. Michael finally published Deidre's Dawn: Book 1 of The Enchantment in October 2016. Book 2 in the trilogy of The Enchantment, Rising Darkness, will be published in 2017. The third installment of The Enchantment trilogy still dances like faeries in J. Michael's imagination, but is slated to come down to earth in 2018.
