Rumi is considered one of the greatest Sufi mystic poets of all time. This volume presents his longer poems from the 9th section of the Divan-i Kebir, recited (and recorded by his followers) in the years after his meeting with Shamseddin of Tebriz, the person credited for opening Rumi's heart. Nevit Ergin, the original translator of this volume, was a mystic giant in his own right, which accounts for the honesty of the translation. Although the poetry gives a window into the culture and history of the time, more importantly, it shares Rumi's spiritual journey from existence to Absence or Nothingness.
