Synopsis

Join Grandpa and Ringtail on a visit to a special field in Jasper County, Missouri for the story of the Rader Farm Massacre and discover how recent research has changed the long-held historical account of this tragic Civil War incident.

In May of 1863, Rebel guerrillas ambushed Union troops at the Rader Farm (near Joplin, MO). Several African American soldiers with the 1st Kansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment were killed during this attack and their corpses desecrated. Many of these recruits had been slaves, and their presence as Union soldiers generated great resentment among Southern sympathizers.

Two Terrible Days in May: The Rader Farm Massacre relates the story of this attack for young students and commemorates the lives lost.
