This book describes for the first time the gradual development of the old western villages of Ealing and Hanwell. Using many previously unpublished illustrations, the author records the area's rural origins, which survived until modern times. Then, in a splendid array of photographs and engravings, he shows how these villages on one of the main roads westward out of London were transformed by the coming of railways and the siting of some large institutions.
