Book Description Soft cover. Condition: Fine. A very nice copy without flaw. 6 X 9" 362 pages + 11 page index. Originally published in 1769, Manchester, UK. For approximately 15 years during the mid-1700s, Elizabeth Raffald was a housekeeper for several families, including the Warburtons of Arley Hall. It was there that she met her husband, John, who was the head gardener. They eventually moved to Manchester, where she opened a culinary school and catering business, as well as the first domestic service agency in the city. She frequently contributed articles to the local newspapers, produced multiple city-wide trade directories, and authored a book on midwifery as well as her most famous work, The Experienced English Housekeeper. Her cookbook was wildly popular, going through 13 authorized reprints, and an estimated 23 pirated versions. This copy was manufactured by Amazon, Bolton, ON. Seller Inventory # 578892
