Synopsis

A practical introduction and guide to the Gothispanic and Early Mozarabic Rite which materialized in the Gothic Kingdoms of Toledo and Oviedo from the sixth through the tenth centuries. This treatise rescues many essential details which have been otherwise left out in the texts and historiography concerning the Mozarabic Rite after the reforms undertaken by the Cardinal Cisneros in the 15th century. It showcases many of the primordial peculiarities which distinguish it from the now predominant Roman Rite: from architectural forms to objects used in the mass, liturgical colours and vesture. Because of its formative years take place before the Great Schism, it also exposes a fundamental link between the Greek and Latin traditions, as well as commonalities with the churches of Africa and Asia. The book has over 50 illustrations.

About the Author

Dom Eduardo's expertise on The Constitutional History and Culture of the Goths makes him the long awaited and well received authority to shine a light on this obscure christian liturgical tradition. Proficient in Spanish, Latin, English, French, Portuguese and Italian he has undertaken the revision and translation of original and facsimile texts both in private collections and the public domain over the span of 10 years. A devout Catholic, the prince and author is keen on preserving the peculiar institutions and traditions of his ancestors as an integral part of the greater historical context of The Church and its rich cultural patrimony. The Gothispanic Rite, as he has called it, is the only other Western Rite of the Catholic Church to have survived through the centuries, though a lot of the particular details have been lost in its later iterations. His focus on this text is rescuing the lost and corrupted aspects of the legacy left by Saint Isidore of Seville and the other council fathers under the royal authority of the Goths.
