Make equity the norm in your school or district. Evident Equity provides a comprehensive method that leaders can use to integrate equitable practices into every facet of their school communities. Each chapter covers a different aspect of equitable leadership, from organizing staff to staying strong in the face of adversity, and offers real-life examples at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Lauryn Mascareñaz, EdD (she/hers/her), is currently the director of equity affairs for Wake County Public Schools in Wake County, North Carolina. She is a career educator who spent 10 years as an elementary classroom teacher and instructional coach in Denver, Colorado, and the Bay Area of California. Her passion for culturally responsive instruction also led her to Learning for Justice (formerly Teaching Tolerance), a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, where she served as a teaching and learning specialist. Lauryn is inspired by the equity-minded educators she works alongside each day and is particularly dedicated to closing the opportunity gap for young males of color. Lauryn works with school stakeholders to strategically plan their equity work and confront roadblocks that are unique to their communities. She believes in using antiracist pedagogy and critical race theory to address institutional inequities. As a presenter, she's toured the United States, speaking on topics ranging from anti-bias curriculum and courageous conversations about race to leading for systemic equity. Lauryn holds a bachelor's degree in American and ethnic studies and a master's degree in language, literacy, and culturally responsive teaching, both from the University of Colorado. She earned her doctorate in leadership and organizational systems from Vanderbilt University To learn more about Lauryn's work, visit risedei.com, or follow her on Twitter @laurynmaria.
