About the Author

John Hannigan, EdD, has served in education for over twenty years as a teacher, instructional coach, principal, and county office leadership coach. John is a sought-after presenter who works with schools and districts throughout North America on designing and implementing systematic multitiered systems of supports for academics and behavior.
During his nine years as principal at Reagan Elementary in the Sanger Unified School District in California, Dr. Hannigan was the leader of a highly effective professional learning community. He and his staff were recognized as a National Model PLC, California State Distinguished School, Gold Ribbon School, and California Honor Roll School. They also received the Title I Academic Achievement Award and earned Platinum status for positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), in addition to being selected as a knowledge-development site for the statewide scaling up of multitiered systems of supports (MTSS).
Dr. Hannigan has written numerous articles and coauthored nine books. He is the cofounder of Hannigan Ed-Equity Group LLC. Jessica Djabrayan Hannigan, EdD, works with U.S. schools and districts to design and implement effective social-emotional and behavioral systems. Her expertise includes RTI, PLCs, MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, social-emotional learning, and more.
In addition to her role as an assistant professor in the educational leadership department at California State University, Fresno, Dr. Hannigan serves on the California Department of Education design team for the implementation of MTSS to help advocate and change the trending discipline inequity throughout the state’s schools and create positive school climates for all students.
The combination of her special education and student support services background, school- and district-level administration, and graduate-level teaching and research experiences has allowed Dr. Hannigan to develop inclusive research-based best practices for systemically implementing equitable behavior initiatives.
Dr. Hannigan has been recognized as the California Outstanding School Psychologist of the Year, as well as other awards from Outstanding Faculty Publications at California State University, Fresno. She was recognized by the California Legislature Assembly for her work in social justice and equity, and she received the inaugural Association of California School Administrators Exemplary Women in Education Award in 2017 for her work on equity in schools.
Dr. Hannigan earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in school psychology, an administrative credential, and a doctorate in leadership.
