About the Author

Samantha K. Dykes, an instructional coach at Linn-Mar School District in Iowa, has been a driving force in inspiring innovation through professional development. Her educational journey began in 2011; since then, she has taught kindergarten to fifth-grade English learners, sixth- to ninth-grade English learners, and third- and fourth-grade general education students, and she served as an online learning coach during the 2020–2021 school year.
Samanatha’s educational path began at Iowa State University, where she majored in elementary education and received her K–12 English as a second language endorsement. She has also earned three master’s degrees in English language learners, learning and technology, and administration with a principal endorsement.
Her educational philosophy aligns with the quote, “The whole purpose of school is not to be good at school, but to be good at life.” This belief drives her commitment to engage students and equip them with essential skills beyond the classroom. The student-engaged classroom model, which she champions, serves as the foundation for her teaching beliefs.

Rachel E. Morris is an instructional coach in the Linn-Mar Community School District in Iowa. Throughout her eighteen years in education, Rachel has continually demonstrated her unwavering commitment to student success and staff growth. Starting as a fourth- and fifth-grade classroom teacher, she honed her skills in curriculum design, classroom management, and student engagement, serving on numerous curriculum and leadership committees throughout her district. Driven by her passion for helping others thrive, Rachel transitioned into the role of an instructional coach, supporting teachers and providing them with the tools, resources, and guidance they need to excel in their practice. Her expertise in instructional strategies, data analysis, and collaborative problem solving has empowered educators to enhance their teaching practices and improve student outcomes.
Rachel received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Wartburg College, a master’s degree in elementary reading and mathematics from Walden University, and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Walden University, and is currently working toward a master’s degree in educational leadership and principal endorsement from Northwestern University in Iowa.

Shanna K. Helmke is a dedicated educator with over thirteen years of experience in the field. Currently serving as an instructional coach at Linn-Mar Community School District in Iowa, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role. Her journey in education began in the elementary classroom, where she taught grades 3–5, focusing on student engagement and innovative teaching strategies. Alongside her work as an instructional coach, Shanna also serves as an adjunct professor at Mount Mercy University, furthering her commitment to fostering excellence in education.
Shanna’s educational journey began at the University of Iowa. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in psychology with endorsements in early childhood, reading, and social studies. Building on this foundation, she pursued advanced degrees, including a master of education in learning and technology, a master of science in curriculum and instruction, and a master of education in administration with a principal endorsement. These qualifications have equipped Shanna with the knowledge and skills to lead and inspire educators toward success.
