About the Author

Scott Ritter is a former Marine intelligence officer who served in the former Soviet Union, implementing arms control agreements, and on the staff of General Norman Schwartzkopf during the Gulf War, where he played a critical role in the hunt for Iraqi SCUD missiles. Mr. Ritter served as a Chief Inspector for the United Nations in Iraq, leading the search for Iraq’s proscribed weapons of mass destruction. He is author of 10 books, including Disarmament in the Time of Perestroika and Scorpion King.

If there ever was a better encapsulation of what any book is all about, it is by way of Ania K in the words of indomitable Scott Ritter: “I was used to interviews that tested my mind. Ania’s interviews tested my soul, and over the course of the next two years, I found myself both welcoming our time together.” So did I, having had many talks with both Ania and Scott. I count knowing them both as a privilege. This book is the best primer available on the market on the war in Ukraine, known in Russia as the Special Military Operation (SMO). These interviews are not by some corrupt legacy media journalist from the West “questioning” some anonymous (for some reason they are almost always anonymous) government bureaucrat or some washed out US or NATO general who lost every war they ever fought. Rather, this book is by people who are competent both in human and military terms. And there is also no doubt about the human and professional integrity of Ania and Scott. Ania knows Russia culturally very deeply, being a guest there very often and having many contacts among a large number of Russians. So does Scott Ritter, a former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector. Theirs is a combination of soul and knowledge which is crucial in providing a tether of truth about the events of the SMO to a Western public completely insulated from competent opinions, and which is floating into the horrifying echo chamber of Western propaganda and outright lies.
Through his interviews with Ania and her poignant questions, Scott Ritter delivers a tour de force of strategic thinking and discloses facts which are either completely absent from Western legacy media or are being removed from public opinion, having been relegated to what could be defined as last pages of newspapers, or to “small print.” It is enough to point out Ritter’s excellent elaborations on the back end of operations, including logistics and how complex it is for even a single brigade to move in combat zone. This book also serves as an excellent timetable of the SMO, because Ania interviewed Scott for the last two years. Moreover, you can access those interviews on YouTube and see for yourself how people of integrity and humanity communicate with each other. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
