America cannot remain a global economic leader without a modern, lawful way to attract, legalize, and retain the workers it clearly needs.
In a construction market short on skilled labor, a local contractor may have jobs ready to start but no lawful, reliable way to hire and retain the workers to do them. That gap―repeated in agriculture, health care, hospitality, manufacturing, and communities across the country―lies at the heart of Reconstructing Immigration: How to Rebuild America’s Economic Advantage.
Longtime business writer and author Loren C. Steffy delivers a clear, data-driven roadmap for rebuilding the U.S. immigration system around growth, competitiveness, and regional development. As mass deportations, border-enforcement crackdowns, and expanding “border security” budgets dominate headlines, Steffy makes the economic case for a modern, lawful system that enables America to attract, legalize, and retain the workers its industries and regions need.
Reconstructing Immigration shows how policy failure punishes workers and honest employers while rewarding those who exploit the system. Steffy examines how outdated laws distort industries, erode fair competition, and weaken the nation’s long-term demographic and economic strength. For more than a century, immigration has fueled American growth, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Yet enforcement-first politics still rely on 1980s-era tools to manage a 21st-century labor market. Steffy shifts the debate away from familiar questions―how many people to deport or how high to build a border wall―and confronts the question that follows: How can the United States build an immigration framework that matches the jobs its economy creates in cities, suburbs, and rural communities?
Grounded in research and practical experience, Steffy advances a pragmatic blueprint to modernize U.S. immigration policy and unlock trillions of dollars in potential GDP while helping America address looming demographic and productivity challenges. Building on the historical narrative of Deconstructed: An Insider's View of Illegal Immigration and the Building Trades, Reconstructing Immigration gives business leaders, policymakers, lawyers, journalists, and informed citizens practical solutions for one of the nation’s most polarizing issues―and a compelling case that smarter immigration reform remains essential to America’s future as a global economic leader.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - As mass deportations and escalating 'border security' budgets dominate the headlines, Reconstructing Immigration: How to Rebuild America's Economic Advantage, shows why America cannot remain a global economic leader without a modern, lawful way to attract, legalize, and retain the workers it clearly needs. It connects the dots between immigration reform, productivity, entrepreneurship, and regional development, giving readers a coherent plan for how the United States can turn a chronic political crisis into a durable competitive advantage. Immigration has been the engine of U.S. economic growth for more than a century. But today's enforcement-first politics are using 1980s tools to manage a 21st-century labor market. Instead of asking how many people to deport or how high to build the wall, we should be asking what happens next, and how do we build an immigration system that actually matches the jobs our economy creates. Reconstructing Immigration: How to Rebuild America's Economic Advantage, puts into context four decades of congressional inaction and a de facto amnesty system that kept millions working in the shadows. It shows how recent crackdowns have punished workers and honest employers while rewarding those who game the system. Through real-world stories, the book reveals how policy failure has distorted entire industries and undermined fair competition. Longtime business writer and author Loren C. Steffy provides a pragmatic, research-backed policy blueprint for modernizing the system. It details concrete proposals for filling regional labor gaps, increasing the ranks of essential workers and even encouraging immigrant entrepreneurs, all designed to unleash a new economically based approach to immigration policy that could unlock trillions in potential GDP. Reconstructing Immigration provides understanding and solutions for our broken immigration system that include stabilizing the existing workforce, modernizing legal channels, and building a compliance system that rewards good-faith employers while targeting fraud. Business leaders, policymakers, lawyers, and informed citizens provide practical, economically grounded solutions for one of the country's most polarizing issues. Seller Inventory # 9781965766859
