Synopsis

In just 40 days Dr. Mark will take you on a journey through the Gospel of John. Each day you will go back in time to discover the real meaning behind the Scriptures. Seeming discrepancies will disappear in the historical, cultural and literary contexts. Then you’ll share a devotional that will take the ancient truth and apply it in your life today. Can you explain these alleged errors in the Gospel of John? 1. Jesus claimed He would be dead for three days and three nights. But He wasn’t! He died on Good Friday and rose on Sunday. Critics point out that is only two days and not three. Friday to Saturday is one day. Saturday to Sunday is only a second day and not a third. Doesn’t this prove the Bible is false? (See page 140 for a clear and documented answer). 2. Critics point out that the Gospel of Mark states Jesus was crucified the day AFTER the Passover was eaten (Mark 14:12, 15:25). However, John says Jesus died the day BEFORE it was eaten (John 19:14). How do you answer this discrepancy that some claim proves the Bible has errors? (See pages 134-135 where it is explained and documented). 3. In John 1:19, John the Baptist denies being Elijah. But Matthew 17:10-13 implies John was Elijah. Which is true? (See page 18 for the answer). 4. John’s account of the woman anointing Jesus with oil has several significant inconsistencies with the other Gospels. How do you explain this? (See pages 98-99). 5. Doesn’t Jesus turning the water into wine endorse drinking alcohol? (See pages 22-26 for a well-documented answer). If You Can’t Readily Answer These Discrepancies, Then You NEED This Book. How Is This Commentary and Devotional Different? First, many commentaries today are written by authors who do not hold to the inerrancy and authority of the Holy Scriptures. Many of these “scholars” are searching for the “historical Jesus” because they don't accept the Jesus revealed in the Scriptures. They hold disjointed views and believe that the Scriptures are full of errors. Dr. Mark shows how every supposed contradiction or error proves to either be nothing more than a misreading of the original languages or a failure to utilize proper hermeneutics respecting the literary, cultural and historical contexts. Secondly, instead of being created in a purely academic environment, Dr. Mark produced this while serving the same church for over 34 years. His life is immersed in the daily care of the church, putting him in greater touch with daily life and moves these lessons from the hypothetical to where the rubber meets the road. There is another very significant way in which this commentary is different. Most devotionals pay far too little attention to the actual meaning of the text and simply seek to apply it for today. The focus here is to show you what the words meant to the people who first heard or read them. Once you truly understand the original and real meaning you can better determine how to apply the truth. Get ready to study and show yourself approved to God, a worker who rightly divides the Word of Truth. This Unique Daily Commentary and Devotional will make it real.
