LIFE LESSONS FROM THE HIVE takes us safely into the world of the honey bee, a world that is spectacular, magnificent, and direct evidence of an almighty God and His creations. M. J. Miller interjects the humor of her own personality to explain the life and work of bees as she carries the reader from close understanding of bees to a deeper understanding of life with Jesus. Her parallels not only inform, but they also inspire the reader to contemplate the spiritual purpose of his or her own life.

Who knew you could make a connection between bees and God? Well, actually, the well-traveled apostle Paul did. In his letter to the Romans he said, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." (Romans 1:20)
Bees are such little things, yet they are essential to the world's ecology and food supply. While the extent of the damage is debatable, scientists agree that if the honey bee were to disappear, our food supply would suffer. Imagine a world without apples, oranges, almonds, berries, avocados, onions, vegetables and even coffee. We might not starve, but dull dinners would be our daily diet.
When bees work in harmony they produce honey, the sweetest nectar on earth. So it shouldn't surprise us that God would use bees and honey to teach lessons about His Kingdom. And For some of you, this book will give you more information about honey bees than you ever wanted to know. For others, it will open a door to new insights about God. For the rest of you, hopefully, you'll at least enjoy the read.
After almost ten years of doing Christian missions work in Asia and the Pacific with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), God took me back home to a small seven-acre mini-farm in the middle of Tennessee. He paired me up with a fellow missionary, Susan (Suki) Brannan. We had worked together in ministry in YWAM and found that we made a good team. For over a decade we have used our experiences in missions as illustrations in Bible teachings at churches and as conference speakers.
Not long after we moved to Tennessee some friends introduced us to honey bees. I was fascinated by the bees, but, more than that, I was interested in making honey. While driving the backroads in the county I'd often seen hives sitting quietly by the edges of fields, just waiting for someone to gather that sweet nectar. How hard could it be?
