You can measure on the go as you crochet, simply remove your hook, hold the piece up against whatever or whoever you might be fitting, and you will soon know if you need to add or subtract stitches or make your item longer.

Crochet is also wonderfully portable. You can put a ball of yarn in your purse, or carry-all and crochet in the car, or while talking or watching TV. Some people even crochet while they walk!

Once you learn a few basic stitches, how to read a pattern and put in some practice time the doors to a fantastic amount of creativity will be open to you.
