Synopsis

In 1927, amazed citizens of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, watched construction begin on a castle-like hotel surrounded by a beautiful golf course. Robbie Steele, a young caddie, watched each step in the transformation of his small hometown into a tourist mecca. He kept a diary of the exotic visitors who stepped off the train to enjoy the ocean breezes and splendor of the hotel and golf course. For one week each spring, a nomadic golfer named Hooker captured the attention of the town. He traveled with an obnoxious caddie and a young girl in a wheeled chair. Each member of the visiting trio dazzled local residents and hotel visitors until their final visit, a visit that ended abruptly in the middle of the night, leaving only rumors of a terrible tragedy. Five decades later, using his frayed diary and emerging technology, Steele attempts to discover what happened to the trio and the events that caused them to vanish. The trail of the mysterious Hooker has many twists and turns.
