Diary of a Madman is a narrative in the form of diary entries by the Russian poet Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Gogol from 1835. Its considered to be one of Gogol's greatest short stories. Suppressed, tormented at work and hopelessly in love, Titularrat Poprischtschin takes refuge in his own world. During initial fantasies like two talking dogs his delusion increases more and more up to that he is the heir to the throne of Spain.
