About the Author

Brian Noble, who is now retired, was a journalist, a traveller, and an adventurer in Africa.  He was arrested and imprisoned in South Africa during Apartheid while insisting he interview the imprisoned Steve Biko.
 
As an eighteen-year-old teenager, he helped thousands of students rip up tramlines and cobblestones in an attempt to halt the Russian tanks in Hungary during the 1956 revolution. After completing his National Service he was briefly involved in the black American attempt to gain political recognition in the 1960s in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He has contributed numerous science-based articles, to newspapers and magazines, and has worked for two national dailies.
