Olivier Sers, a déjà publié aux Belles Lettres des traductions appréciées de Catulle (Le Roman de Catulle, 2004), Pétrone (Satiricon, 2002), Juvénal (Satires, 2002), Apulée (Les Métamorphoses ou l''Âne d''or, 2007) et des poètes néo-latins de la Renaissance Jean Second et Michel Marulle (Les Baisers/ Épigrammes, 2006).

Ce long poeme de 12 000 hexametres dactyliques entierement traduit en alexandrins par Olivier Sers raconte l'histoire du monde, de sa creation jusqu'a la Rome du Ier siecle. Cette nouvelle traduction de la "legende doree" du paganisme greco-romain est toute charme, fraicheur, esprit, invention. L'envoutement opere plus que jamais dans ces Mille et Une Nuits de l'Antiquite.
