Synopsis
Voyage au bout de la nuit est le roman le plus connu de Céline, mais est-il pour autant facile à lire ? Pour son auteur, en 1932, il s’agit d’une œuvre « impossible à classer », visant à « créer une image très fidèle de l’homme des villes », « satirique jusqu’à la férocité », « contée » pourtant de manière « candide » et destinée « aux médecins, aux universitaires et aux lettrés ». Il est donc tentant de le lire comme une étonnante réécriture de Candide, comme un roman philosophique qui traite du problème du mal, de la guerre et de la mort, et comme une somme qui met en question les idées de son temps : pour Freud contre la psychiatrie française, pour la « littérature prolétarienne » contre Proust, pour Darien et Stirner contre Rousseau, pour la psychanalyse contre la révolution.À recomposer ainsi l’univers intellectuel sous-jacent à cette œuvre, on gagne d’en mieux comprendre la forme, les obscurités, les jeux intertextuels nombreux et les engagements. On y gagne aussi d’apercevoir la continuité logique de toute l’œuvre de Céline, pamphlets compris.
