En 1901 mourait Victoria, symbole d'un siècle d'austérité. Loin de la légende "victorienne", on découvre ici une souveraine et une femmeardente.
Il y a cent ans, la reine Victoria mourait et entrait dans la légende comme une petite dame obèse et impérieuse. Son nom symbolise un siècle d'hypocrisie, d'austérité sourcilleuse, de chasteté puritaine. Le moment est venu de corriger le mythe d'une Victoria "victorienne". La reine du plus grand empire depuis la Rome antique, la grand-mère de l'Europe, la souveraine de la révolution industrielle était une femme sensuelle qui aimait les hommes beaux, les soldats en uniforme, les Écossais en kilt, les Indiens en turban. Meilleure danseuse du royaume, elle raffolait des bals qui se terminaient à l'aube, elle ajoutait du whisky à son thé, apprenait l'Italien en chantant du bel canto. Séduite par les couleurs de la Méditerranée, elle lança la Côte d'Azur.Aux lords, elle préférait ses serviteurs simples et bons. Son peuple l'appelait "la reine républicaine". Mais à quarante-deux ans, devenue veuve, elle respecta aveuglément les principes luthériens d'Albert, son prince allemand, qu'elle avait aimé jusqu'à la folie.C'est une Victoria ardente et violente que fait revivre cette biographie sans révérence.
