Synopsis
LIKE A BROTHER
Having set out on the trail of her family history, a young woman delves into accounts of a young man condemned to death: a 24-year-old who undertook a suicidal hold-up in 1954. Posterity has acknowledged that he rediscovered his faith in prison. The legal system turned him into a monster, the church wanted to make him a saint. Who was he? What was he looking for? This young man's name was Jacques Fesch, he was the narrator's uncle. An uncle she imagines but never knew, and whose legend haunts her. As she immerses herself in the 1950s and tries to understand this enigmatic man, her questions slide towards obsession and uncover long buried sorrows of her own.
