Synopsis
Che cosa fosse il Bœuf sur le toit e perché rappresenti un certo mondo e un'epoca è presto in questo celebre cabaret parigino, fondato nel 1921, si ritrova tutto l'ambiente artistico d'avanguardia nel periodo tra le due guerre. I «tempi» di cui Maurice Sachs racconta in questa sorta di journal intime (dal taglio romanzesco, ma in realtà reportage esatto di un'epoca) sono i cosiddetti anni «folli», quelli compresi tra la fine della prima guerra mondiale e il crollo di Wall Street (1929), quando Parigi era al centro della scena mondiale della cultura e dell'arte. Nelle brillanti e divertenti pagine di questo «diario» si alternano notazioni futili (la moda, le acconciature, le stravaganze di un mondo spesso fatuo), saporosi aneddoti (che hanno magari come protagonisti scrittori, artisti e musicisti, come Gide, Cocteau, Picasso, Picabia, Satie, Djagilev…), e la cronaca di una vita intellettuale ardita e intensa, che ha lasciato il suo segno nel '900. Un libro tutto da godere, tradotto per la prima volta in italiano.
