About the Author
Née en 1919 de parents britanniques à Kermanshah (Iran), Doris Lessing passe son enfance en Rhodésie. En 1949, elle se rend pour la première fois en Angleterre avec, dans ses bagages, un premier roman, The Grass is singing, qui sera édité en 1950. Aujourd’hui mondialement connue, elle est l’auteur d’une œuvre considérable : plus de quarante titres, essentiellement des romans – parmi lesquels Le Carnet d’or (prix Médicis étranger 1976) et Les Enfants de la violence–, mais aussi des nouvelles, des pièces de théâtre, des poèmes, des témoignages et souvenirs. Elle a reçu le prix Nobel de littérature en 2007.
