Henriette Walter est professeur de linguistique, présidente de la Société internationale de linguistique fonctionnelle et membre du Conseil supérieur de la langue française. Aux Éditions Robert Laffont, elle a notamment publié L'Aventure des langues en Occident (1994), Honni soit qui mal y pense (2001), et dernièrement, avec Pierre Avenas,La fabuleuse histoire du nom des poissons.
