Heidi W. Durrow est la fille d'une mère danoise et d'un père afro-américain travaillant pour l'US Air Force. Elle a grandi en Turquie, en Allemagne et au Danemark, puis a fait ses études supérieures à l'école de journalisme de l'université de Columbia, ainsi qu'un cursus de droit à Yale. Elle est aujourd'hui directrice de festivals culturels. Elle a 42 ans et vit à New York. Son premier roman, La Fille tombée du ciel, a reçu le prix Barbara Kingslover Bellwether en 2008.
