Synopsis
Quand Mikhaïl Boulgakov publie Coeur de chien en 1925, la Russie soviétique bénéficie d'une relative liberté créatrice avant la nuit noire du stalinisme qui s'annonce. En d'autres temps le sujet de son roman lui aurait valu quelques années de goulag. Que l'on en juge ! Un professeur greffe sur un chien ramassé dans les rues de Moscou l'hypophyse d'un individu qui vient de mourir. L'animal se métamorphose alors en un petit homme ivrogne, grossier et méchant: le donneur était un voyou alcoolique et sans scrupule. Et voilà le professeur harcelé et poursuivi par des comités étatiques et prolétariens en tout genre, guidés et fanatisés par le chien devenu homme. Et pire, homme de parti ! Comme toujours chez Boulgakov, l'irrationnel, la dérision et la folie rejoignent une réalité cauchemardesque. L'écrivain demeure le plus grand et le plus lucide des chroniqueurs satiriques de cette époque totalitaire et tragique.

About the Author
C'est à Kiev que Mikhaïl Boulgakov est né (1891) et a grandi. Il entre à la faculté de médecine en 1909 et se marie. Abandonnant la médecine en 1920, il se consacre à la littérature. Rejoignant Moscou, il publie de nombreux articles et travaille pour la scène. Auteur de comédies, de romans et de nombreuses nouvelles, ennemi de la bureaucratie et des compromis, cet écrivain passionné de théâtre, incompris et écrasé par le pouvoir soviétique (domicile perquisitionné, manuscrits confisqués, pièces tantôt jouées tantôt interdites par la censure), dut se contenter d'emplois subalternes. Ayant conservé jusqu'à la fin sa dignité et sa liberté de créateur, Mikhaïl Boulgakov est mort en 1940 à Moscou.
