Néà Dublin en 1958, Roddy Doyle est l'un des écrivains majeurs de la littérature irlandaise contemporaine. Il est l'auteur de la célèbre trilogie de Barrytown - The Commitments, The Snapper et The Van - (collection « Pavillons », 1996 ; « Pavillons poche », 2009), portée à l'écran par Alan Parker (1991) et Stephen Frears (1993), ainsi que de Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha (1993, lauréat du Booker Prize).
