About the Author
Agrégé d'histoire, docteur ès lettres, longtemps enseignant, Max Gallo a toujours mené de front une oeuvre d'historien, d'essayiste et de romancier, s'attachant à restituer les grands moments de l'Histoire et l'esprit d'une époque. Il est aussi l'auteur de biographies abondamment documentées sur de grands personnages (Napoléon, de Gaulle, César, Victor Hugo, Louis XIV, Jésus). Avec 1940, de l'abîme à l'espérance (2010), il a initié une grande histoire de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, achevée en 2012 avec 1944-1945, le triomphe de la liberté. Les cinq volumes ont paru chez XO. Chez le même éditeur, Max Gallo a publié ses mémoires, L'Oubli est la ruse du diable (2012), puis une histoire de la Première Guerre mondiale – 1914, le destin du monde et 1918, la terrible victoire, parus en 2013 – ainsi que Geneviève, lumière d'une sainte dans un siècle obscur, paru en novembre 2013. Max Gallo a été élu le 31 mai 2007 à l'Académie française, au fauteuil du philosophe Jean-François Revel.
