Ayelet Waldman est née en Israël et a grandi entre Montréal et le New Jersey. Ancienne avocate, elle se consacre désormais à l'écriture et anime des cours à l'Université de Berkeley. Elle vit en Californie, avec son mari, l'écrivain Michael Chabon, et leurs quatre enfants. Son premier roman traduit en français, Mercredi au parc (Robert Laffont, 2007), a été adapté au cinéma en 2010 sous le titre Un hiver à Central Park, avec Natalie Portman dans le rôle principal.
