Synopsis

Jakob Böhme, also known as Jacob Behmen, stands among the most original figures of Christian mysticism. A German philosopher, visionary, and Lutheran theologian, he developed a profoundly symbolic spiritual philosophy that influenced thinkers throughout Europe. Hegel later described him as the first German philosopher, recognizing the depth and originality of his insight into the spiritual nature of reality.

This remarkable work offers a practical and deeply contemplative guide to the inner life. Through reflections on repentance, resignation, spiritual rebirth, and the higher life of the spirit, it describes the transformation of the soul and the path that leads from darkness toward divine illumination.

The text unfolds as a series of spiritual teachings. Repentance becomes the beginning of inner renewal. True resignation or dying to self opens the way to spiritual freedom. Regeneration reveals the mystery of the new birth, while the reflections on the supersensual life explore the spiritual reality that lies beyond the limits of ordinary perception.

Included in this edition is the celebrated biography The Life of Jacob Behmen: The Teutonic Theosopher by the Reverend William Law. This important introduction sheds light on the life, influence, and enduring legacy of one of the most remarkable mystics of the Christian tradition.

Rich in spiritual depth and philosophical insight, this enduring classic continues to guide readers who seek a deeper understanding of the inner transformation of the soul and the mystical path toward union with God.
