Synopsis

Discover one of the great spiritual classics of Persian literature.

Jeláleddín Rumi (1207-1273) ranks among the greatest poets of Persia and one of the most enduring voices of mystical literature. His writings, rooted in the spiritual tradition of Sufism and later associated with the Mevlevi dervishes, have inspired readers across cultures for more than seven centuries.

This volume brings together two important sources of Rumi's poetry: the complete six books of the Masnavi I Ma'navi, translated and annotated by E. H. Whinfield, and William Hastie's celebrated rendering The Festival of Spring from the Díván of Jeláleddín. Read together, they reveal both the expansive narrative vision of the Masnavi and the intensity of Rumi's lyrical expression.

Through parables, symbolic tales, and meditative verse, Rumi explores the longing for the divine, the transformation of the heart, and the hidden unity behind the visible world. His poetry combines spiritual depth with imaginative power in a way that continues to speak to modern readers seeking meaning beyond the material life.

Carefully edited and fully annotated, this edition offers a reliable and accessible introduction to one of the great monuments of Sufi literature.
