Softcover. Condition: Good. Ce manifeste net et dogmatique, écrit avec la précision et le feint détachement que Signac admirait chez Stendhal, détonne en cette fin de sicle o l'on parle plutt de sensation d'art et de religion de la beauté que de documents, d'histoire et de lois. Livre de partisan, paru une dizaine d'années aprs la naissance du mouvement, ce fut aussi un livre essentiel pour la génération du tournant du sicle, qui allait créer la peinture moderne. Cette glorification de la couleur, que Signac sait trs clairement conceptualiser, n'est pas sans rappeler l'esthétique byzantine et vénitienne, en totale rupture avec celle des Grecs ou de Raphal. Eternelle querelle des davidiens et des rubinistes, qui avait tant troublé Delacroix. Il est trs curieux de retrouver dans l'esthétique du néo-impressionnisme l'un des thmes éternels des écrits sur l'art plastique et de découvrir ici l'affirmation d'un art dont les problmes doivent tre propres, et totalement étrangers la littérature. De Matisse Kandinsky, tous les artistes du début du vingtime sicle se sont inspirés de cette oeuvre fondamentale. Fondateur, avec Seurat, du pointillisme, Signac y développe pratiquement cette pensée d'Eugne Delacroix: l'art du coloriste tient évidemment, par certains ctés, aux mathématiques et la musique.
