Synopsis
Né avec les indépendances, lié, dans son développement au destin des nouvelles souverainetés, le cinéma d'Afrique noire francophone s'engage dès son origine dans un vaste mouvement de réappropriation culturelle. Il donne à voir, prioritairement, les réalités continentales du présent comme du passé. Contrairement au cinéma narratif occidental qui montre pour raconter, l'acte de raconter devient second par rapport à ce geste premier qui consiste à montrer. Dès lors l'espace, en tant que réalité géographique et sociale, mais aussi et surtout en tant que mode d'agencement narratif, devient l'enjeu fondamental de ce cinéma. Il est ce miroir en lequel s'inscrivent les images d'un monde en devenir. Il est aussi ce lieu filmique où s'affirment le mieux l'authenticité et la spécificité du cinéma africain. C'est la thèse que soutient André Gardies tout au long de cet essai, à partir d'une démarche sémionarratologique tout à la fois claire et efficace.
