Norman Manea est né en 1936, en Roumanie. Ingénieur de formation, il débute sa carrière littéraire dans les années soixante. Contraint de quitter son pays en 1986, il s’installe à New York. Il est aujourd’hui reconnu comme l’un des écrivains les plus importants du XXe siècle.
