Synopsis
Villandry, achevé en 1536, est le dernier des grands châteaux de la Loire, bâtis à l’époque de la Renaissance. Aujourd’hui, les jardins du château, ce sont 120 topiaires d’if, 1 000 charmes, 1 150 tilleuls, 900 arbres fruitiers et 250 000 plants de légumes et de fruits. Au-delà de ces chiffres, c’est la philosophie animant Villandry qui est remarquable : allier l’excellence de l’entretien à une démarche moderne de culture biologique. Les jardins se composent, entre autres, d’un potager en carrés (qui s’étend sur 9 hectares), dont l’équilibre complexe est recherché deux fois par saison, d’un jardin de simples, d’un jardin d’ornement, et d’un « jardin d’amour »... Depuis quatre générations, la famille Carvallo pérennise la beauté des jardins de Villandry, sans jamais cesser de le renouveler.

Georges Lévêque est photographe. Depuis la fin des années 60, il a accompagné toutes les évolutions du jardin en France, plus particulièrement dans le magazine Mon Jardin & ma maison, dont il est devenu une figure incontournable.
