En 1947, Thor Heyerdahl et ses cinq équipiers se lancent l’incroyable défi de parcourir 8 000 kilomètres à travers le Pacifique sur un radeau de balsa, reproduction exacte des radeaux préhistoriques des Indiens d’Amérique du Sud. Partant de Callao – Pérou –, ils naviguent vers les îles polynésiennes de Tuamotu à bord du Kon-Tiki afin de prouver au monde que les ancêtres des Incas étaient allés en leur temps peupler la Polynésie. Cette traversée donna lieu à l’un des plus passionnants récits d’aventures, à la portée universelle. À contre-courant des théories de l’époque, Heyerdahl a en effet contribué, par cette expédition, à bouleverser les idées reçues sur l’origine de ces peuples.
